American Psychological Association
The American Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. It is the largest organization of psychologists in the world. The APA website features psychology-related articles that are not specific to children and families. It has an extensive database of articles, and is easy to navigate. It allows the user to view papers concerning various topics, such as parenting teenagers. At the time of this review the papers presented articles about behavioral and emotional disorders in pre-school children, parenting styles, child sexual abuse and youth violence. The website also offers opportunities to get free brochures, and information on conventions and continuing education.

Eurekalert.Com has two main goals. The first is to provide a forum where research institutions, universities, government agencies corporations and the like can distribute science-related information. The second is to archive press releases and make them easily accessible to the public. This website provides news on various subjects, including education and social behavior. Discusses topics pertinent to child development and parenting, such as family and childcare, parenting styles and parenting teenagers. Also provides research on K–12, undergraduate and postgraduate education. The information given is taken from recent meetings concerning the topic and from peer-reviewed journals. This website contains a search engine for the whole site as well as for particular subject areas. KidsHealth
KidsHealth has been operating since 1995, and was created by the Nemours Foundation’s Center for Children’s Health Media. Its goal is to provide jargon-free, accurate and recent information about kids from birth to adolescence. Each article contains source listings for further research on child development, a ‘related articles’ and ‘additional resources section.’ Articles discuss various topics ranging from parenting teenagers to creating a safe home environment. Each article also includes a ‘what this means to you” section, which explains how the child development research results can be applied in every day activities to optimize children’s health. This website also features selected articles and information in Spanish.

MEDLINEplus
The website provides health information from the world’s largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. Geared toward health professionals and consumers, it contains information that is updated daily from authoritative sources. MEDLINEplus has extensive information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 500 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and dictionaries, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. The child development section provides the latest news about child development, as well as growth charts, information on specific conditions, and development and behavior. Additional articles address specific topics, such as what influences parenting styles, and how to cope with parenting teenagers. It also includes an alphabetic listing of other health topics that users can link to. In addition to dictionaries, and nutrition information, medlineplus child development section features links to organizations for parents and children.

National Center For Policy Research (CPR) for Women & Families
A non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to providing information that can be used to improve the lives of women and families. The CPR promotes health and well being of women and families by using objective, research based information to encourage new, more effective programs and policies. The center gathers and analyzes information and presents unbiased, comprehensible facts to the public. Contains summaries of recent research findings, with information on how you can obtain copies of the original article. Articles detail a variety of subjects, ranging from parenting teenagers to the challenges of raising daughters. Provides links to women’s health research and child development research, work, family and economic security and advocate opportunities.

This site is part of a network of specialty websites under the name of MDLinx. The network is designed to provide physicians with a comprehensive site that delivers up-to-date medical news from peer-reviewed medical publications. As a result, research articles featured are very technical. The site is very comprehensive, it contains options for receiving updates over e-mail, and contains subspecialties of child development research such as Adolescent Medicine, Child/Adolescent Psychiatry, as well as others.
