Statement by Hal Daub, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL,
in Response to the Nov. 15 CBS News Report:
"The American Health Care Association and its 10,000 member
facilities are committed to providing a safe and secure environment
for our nation’s frail, elderly and disabled to receive quality
long term care services. Last evening, CBS Evening News reported on
the issue of sex offenders residing in long term care facilities and
nobody is more concerned about this issue than we are - it is our belief
that the judicial system should establish a process that provides health
care facilities access to relevant information that could impact the
safety and security of other patients and caregivers in advance of admission.
We have been involved and speaking out for months asking the government
to establish clear policies that deal effectively with these concerns."
"I am surprised and dismayed that CBS did not seek comment
from AHCA as the largest representation of long term care providers
in America, and by doing so missed important elements of the story."
For more information on AHCA/NCAL’s position, read the September
24, 2004 letter sent to Congressman Waxman.
