Life is a messy thing; smoking is a messy thing. It’s not something that
you want your kids to do; it’s not something you want to do. It’s something
that at
some point if you make the mistake you make it. I never smoked one
cigarette in my life because I'd seen someone smoking on film. Jack Klugman
I saw John Garfield smoking; he was my idol. And so, he not only influenced me to smoke, I smoked like him. I took drags like he did; I threw
away the cigarette like he did; I held it in the way he did. So it proves that you are influenced.
And in a way, movies—those guys up there that are your heroes—are like your peers.
