The Office on Smoking and Health (OSH), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, has prepared information on smoking, tobacco, and health. Most of the information is available in published documents, by voice recording or facsimile, and through the OSH Internet home page. The following information and resources are provided to assist you.

The Office on Smoking and Health's toll-free telephone number provides a convenient method to order publications. The user may select commands spoken in English or Spanish. During the phone ordering process, the user presses his or her telephone numeric keypad to respond to questions generated by the service. The answers are recorded and played back for the user's verification. This ordering process can be completed in minutes and provides a timely method for obtaining the latest publications on smoking, tobacco, and health. The toll-free number is available 24 hours a day.
If you are interested in receiving current information about smoking, tobacco, and health by recording or facsimile (FAX) call 1-800-CDC-1311. Please follow the prompts that direct you to the Smoking and Health prepared information. To request an up-to-date directory on smoking, tobacco, and health information call either 1-800-CDC-1311 OR dial directly to the FAX information directory at (770) 332-2552. This automated service is available 24 hours a day.
The OSH Smoking and Health Database, which covers more than 30 years of information and contains more than 60,000 abstracts of the scientific and technical literature related to smoking and tobacco use, is used by researchers, librarians, medical professionals, and students nationwide.
The OSH Smoking and Health Database is available on a CD-ROM called the CDP File that also contains information and databases on chronic diseases and is available for use at Federal Depository libraries. Contact your local library to locate your nearest Federal Depository library.
For users of the Internet with the Netscape browser, the CDP File is searchable on the World Wide Web through the CDC data service called WONDER. The URL address is http://wonder.cdc.gov/
You may purchase the CDP File from the Government Printing Office (GPO) by calling (202) 512-1800. An annual subscription with two yearly updates is $41.00. Single issues are $29.00. The GPO stock number is 717-145-00000-3.
