MMWR—Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance—United States, 2003

On Friday, May 21, 2004, the 2003 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System was released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a comprehensive surveillance summary the report reveals the percentage of high school students who reported current cigarette smoking — which had increased from 28 percent in 1991 to 36 percent in 1997 — fell to 22 percent in 2003.
