Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

Serves as the U.S. government's main authority on trade issues. The FTC provides publications and information related to trade policies and tobacco advertising, including health warning labels, and produces a report that contains data on the tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide of domestic cigarettes.

Indian Health Service (IHS)

Provides a comprehensive health services delivery system for American Indians and Alaska Natives with the opportunity for maximum tribal involvement in developing and managing programs to meet their health needs. IHS facilitates and assists in coordinating health planning and in obtaining and using health resources available through federal, state, and local programs.

National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Develops and implements smoking intervention programs and produces publications on smoking. NCI also provides telephone counseling services for smoking cessation. Programs and materials are available to health professionals and the public.

National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS)

Answers requests for catalogs of publications, electronic data products, and single copies of publications, such as Advance Data reports and Monthly Vital Statistics reports. Ordering information is available for publications and electronic products sold through the Government Printing Office and National Technical Information Service. Specific statistical data collected by the National Center for Health Statistics is also available. NCHS maintains a home page on the Internet via the World Wide Web. National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI)*

Provides information about the health risks of using addictive drugs, including tobacco. Information is available in various forms, including videos, fact sheets, posters, and pamphlets.

National Health Information Center (NHIC)*

Helps the public and health professionals locate information on tobacco and other topics through identification of resources, an information and referral system, and publications. Uses a database containing descriptions of health-related organizations to refer inquirers to the most appropriate resources. Prepares and distributes publications and directories on health promotion and disease prevention topics.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

Provides information on chemical and physical hazards in the workplace, training courses, publications, and the health hazard evaluation program. Distributes a subject-indexed catalog of NIOSH materials with information about availability. Maintains automated database covering the field of occupational safety and health and has a library open to the public.

National Oral Health Information Clearinghouse (NOHIC)

NOHIC develops and distributes information and educational materials on special care topics. It maintains a bibliographic database on oral health information and materials and provides information services. Trained staff respond to specific interests and questions in the area of special care.

National Technical Information Service (NTIS)

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Office of Minority Health Resource Center

Regional Medical Library Network

Responsible for eight Regional Medical Libraries, each with a large geographic area. These regional (medical) libraries maintain information about libraries in the local areas that provide health information and database searches.
