International Organizations

International Union Against Cancer
Union Internationale Contre le Cancer (UICC)

In collaboration with hundreds of volunteer experts, the International Union Against Cancer carries out many programs around the world, including programs on tobacco and cancer. The UICC developed and sponsors GLOBALink designed to serve as an international tobacco control computer network with the objective of facilitating coordination among those active globally in tobacco control, cancer control, and public health. GLOBALink provides a full range of electronic communication services in cancer information and control to the UICC membership, the general public, as well as to tobacco control advocates worldwide.

Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)

Develops policies, plans, and programs; mobilizes resources; manages and disseminates information; conducts training and research; and develops technical advisory services for the countries of the Americas working to prevent tobacco use. Produces a variety of technical and scientific publications.

The World Bank

The World Bank works with governments and other partners and implement policies to reduce the use of tobacco products, within a sound economic framework. This web site includes country data and information, and full text (in several languages) of "Curbing the Epidemic" a review of the evidence on the health impact of tobacco use; the reasons why governments and others ought to act; evidence on the effect of lower tobacco use on jobs, smuggling, and poverty; and the most cost-effective tobacco control measures.

World Health Organization (WHO): Tobacco or Health

Through collaboration with organizations in developed countries, bodies of the United Nations system, and nongovernmental organizations, WHO assists in designing, implementing, and evaluating tobacco prevention programs and legislation through the collection and dissemination of data. WHO emphasizes the prevention of youth tobacco addiction.
