North Carolina — Montgomery County Health Department
World No Tobacco Day Softball Fun 2002 was a community-based smoke-free event targeting girls 10 to 16 years old playing or interested in softball. The goal of the project was to increase the awareness among these youth (and their caretakers) of the harmful effects of tobacco use, including its potential to inhibit their playing skills. These events are part of North Carolina's efforts to promote smoke-free school policies.

Tennessee — Smoke-Free Nashville
In recognition of World No Tobacco Day, Smoke-Free Nashville sponsored an event at a local public housing site.  The housing units have been remodeled and residents were welcomed into their new homes by Smoke-Free Nashville.

Smoke-Free Nashville provided a program to discuss health hazards of  secondhand smoke and ways to keep their home smoke-free.  They also provided additional information on local cessation services.  Each resident received a house-warming basket with T-shirts, pens, air fresheners, cessation information, contact information, and decals that can be used to declare their home smoke-free.  The local CBS station, News Channel 5, provided coverage of the event.
