MCRC Catalog Now Available on CD!

These CDs allow MCRC customers to preview all of the ads currently available in our collection. Ads are organized by theme, which makes searching for ads appropriate for your campaign easy! You will need the free Real One Player® installed on your computer to view the TV and radio ads. As with the MCRC Video Catalog, these CDs are FOR PREVIEW PURPOSES ONLY. Ads on these CDs may not be copied, posted on a web site, shown at a conference or in a public presentation, or broadcast in any way without paying appropriate talent fees.

The first three CDs in the set contain all of the television ads, radio ads, print ads, and billboards currently available from the MCRC in all languages. To plan for a campaign targeting populations that speak languages other than English, you will also receive an additional CD with all of the non-English language ads. Finally, you will receive a CD with all of the free ads that can be used without paying any talent fees.

The entire MCRC CD Catalog is available for $20, or you can order individual CD-ROMs for $5 each. The MCRC CD Catalog currently consists of the following five CDs:

  1. Television Ads
  2. Radio Ads
  3. Print Ads and Billboards
  4. Non-English Ads (TV, Radio, Print, Billboard)
  5. Free Ads (TV, Radio, Print, Billboard)

If you prefer to preview the television and radio ads on videotape, you can still order the MCRC Video Catalog for $25 for the set of seven videotapes or $5 for individual videotapes.

New Ad Package

We are pleased to announce a new ad package to help you save money on campaigns from May 2004 through January 2005. For this ad package, the MCRC will pay the talent fees for two ads we have selected. In addition, the MCRC is offering a limited "50 off" on talent fees for ads you select.

MCRC Pays Talent Fees for Quitting Takes Practice
The MCRC will pay all talent fees for the English and Spanish versions of the TV ad Quitting Takes Practice (for broadcast or cable use) for a total of more than 6 months each in two separate cycles:

  • English version: May 1, 2004—August 22, 2004, and October 18, 2004—January 16, 2005
  • Spanish version: May 1, 2004—August 15, 2004 and October 29, 2004—January 27, 2005

Half Off Sale on Ads You Select!!
The MCRC is offering a limited "50% off sale" in which we will pay for HALF of the talent fees (up to $10,000 per state or organization) for any available MCRC ad(s) that you want to use between May 1, 2004, and January 31, 2005. This will give you the flexibility to select the ads you most want, and to air them when you want. There is an overall limit to the total budget for this offer, and the money will be available on a first come, first served basis. You don't have to air your ads immediately (you have until January 31, 2005, to do this), but you do have to confirm in writing your commitment to airing the ads. In other words, the first states/organizations that commit to using ads between May 1, 2004, and January 31, 2005 BY SIGNING A USE AGREEMENT will receive these funds until we run out.

For questions about the ad package or to place an order, please contact the MCRC at mcrc@cdc.gov or 770-488-5705 option 2. Remember, for the "50% off sale," the sooner you can commit to a use agreement, the higher the likelihood that you'll get the funds to pay for half of your ads' talent costs.

2003 National Conference Video

The opening session of the 2003 National Conference on Tobacco or Health featured a video of new and recent tobacco use prevention ads. Some of these ads are available through the MCRC. Below is a list of the ads in the order they appeared, along with the MCRC Order Code for those ads available through the MCRC. The MCRC Online Database includes detailed information about those ads that are in the MCRC collection, as well as streaming videos of the TV ads. To determine talent fees for your market or to place an order, contact the MCRC at mcrc@cdc.gov or 770-488-5705 option 2.

Counter-Marketing Manual

The CDC's Office on Smoking and Health has developed a tobacco counter-marketing manual called Designing and Implementing an Effective Tobacco Counter-Marketing Program. Designed primarily for tobacco control program staff in state health departments and national organizations, this comprehensive 450-page document takes the reader step-by-step through the process of developing and implementing a tobacco counter-marketing campaign. A compilation of information about what has worked successfully in tobacco control and prevention media campaigns over the last dozen years, this resource will help health officials learn from the experiences of others. In addition to providing examples from successful campaigns, the manual also includes samples of key documents used throughout the process of developing those campaigns.

Contact the MCRC (770-488-5705 option 2; mcrc@cdc.gov) to order individual or bulk copies of Designing and Implementing an Effective Tobacco Counter-Marketing Program.
