The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and
the World Health Organization celebrate World No-Tobacco Day on May 31, 1998. Go
tobacco-free on the 31st and encourage others to do the same. Its the first step
toward breaking the addiction to tobacco and creating a world where kids can grow up
tobacco-free!
Of course, if you never start using tobacco, you
never have to quit. A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looks
at Selected Cigarette
Smoking Initiation and Quitting Behaviors Among High School Students —
United States,
1997.
Join the National Center for Chronic Disease
Prevention and Health Promotion's Office on Smoking and Health as we celebrate World
No-Tobacco Day on May 31, 1998. This years theme is "Growing Up Without
Tobacco." WHO calls upon governments, communities, schools, families, and individuals
to prevent nicotine addiction among young people and to protect them from the dangers of
environmental tobacco smoke. World No-Tobacco Day is also an appeal for all tobacco users
to quit using tobacco for at least 24 hours as a first step toward breaking their tobacco
addiction.
