(Washington, D.C. - April 16, 2004) EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt will provide leadership in outlining the future environmental efforts of the Environmental Policy Committee of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) at its meeting April 20-21 in Paris. Leavitt will be joined by foreign environment ministers from the other 29 OECD members countries at the meeting.

“This Agency remains committed to international environmental improvement and sustainable development,” said Leavitt, who will be making his first international visit since being named to his position in November 2003. “Developing relationships with environmental ministers from the international community is a key component of my 500-Day Plan to accelerate environmental progress.”

U.S. Ambassador to the OECD Connie Morella said, “I’m delighted EPA Administrator Leavitt will participate in this important meeting. His emphasis on collaborative problem-solving will help us meet our environmental goals through balanced, open and inclusive approaches.”

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), a Paris-based research and analytic organization, seeks to build strong economies in its member countries; improve efficiency; hone market systems; expand free trade; and contribute to development in industrialized as well as developing countries. This is the 8th OECD meeting, with the most recent held in 2001.
