EPA Administrator Leavitt Charts America's Clean Air FutureCynthia Bergman, 202-564-9828 / bergman.cynthia@epa.gov (Washington, D.C. – April 13, 2004) On the day before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency implements new, more-protective ozone standards, Administrator Mike Leavitt describes his vision for a new chapter in America’s commitment to clean air. During the past three decades America has cut air pollution in half. Our success has taught us new and better ways to accelerate air quality improvement by setting high national standards, using markets to serve the public interest, and focusing on results. The Clean Air Rules of 2004 embody these lessons learned and will usher in one of the most productive periods of air quality improvement in our nation’s history.
