Obtaining Copies

When this is the case, the REPRODUCTION NUMBER (above) generally begins with "LC-USZ..." and the DIGITAL ID field in the catalog record includes the information "(b&w film copy neg.)" or "(color film copy transparency)." Digital images made from copy negatives may not show the color or tint of the original item, if the item, in fact, has any color or tint.
Some digital images were scanned from original items. In such cases, the REPRODUCTION NUMBER (above) generally begins with "LC-DIG..." and includes the information "(digital file from original)."

Obtaining Black & White Photographic Copies

Obtaining Copies from Digital Files through the Photoduplication Service

The Photoduplication Service can only make copies from existing digital files (that is, a picture is displaying with the catalog record). The Photoduplication Service does not scan original items from P&P collections.

Rights and Restrictions

As a publicly supported institution the Library generally does not own rights to material in its collections. Therefore, it does not charge permission fees for use of such material and cannot give or deny permission to publish or otherwise distribute material in its collections.

Summary: Images in the British Cartoon collection are in the public domain.

Access: Permitted; subject to P&P policy on serving original materials.

Reproduction (xeroxing, hand-held camera copying, photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair use"): Permitted, subject to P&P policy on copying, which prohibits photocopying of the original prints.
