In operation since 1949, the INEEL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the nation's and the U.S. Department of Energy's missions in environment, energy, science and national security. It is one of only nine multi-program national laboratories owned by the U.S. Department of Energy. The laboratory is operated by Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC in a unique partnership between Bechtel, BWXT and INRA under the direction of DOE. The INEEL and its more than 6,000 scientists, engineers and employees pursue basic science and applied engineering to find solutions to real-world problems in addition to completing an environmental cleanup mission for the DOE. The INEEL is located in Southeast Idaho in the middle of some of the most beautiful and unique landscape in the world; Yellowstone National Park is a short drive to the north, the Teton mountain range to the east and Sun Valley resort to the west. The INEEL maintains facilities in Idaho Falls and at a location about 50 miles west of Idaho Falls on 890 square miles of the Snake River Plain. |
