In 2004 approximately 100 entries were received for the second annual competition. A panel of 6 judges with backgrounds in science journalism, science documentary production, medical illustration, and computer animation pored over 50 finalist entries to determine the winners.

Beginning October 11th, 2004, a special program highlighting the 2003 and 2004 winners will air on the ResearchChannel.
