Interior's Accent on Results
The Department of the Interior is on a journey toward management
excellenceexcellence defined by results. Interior's
Accent on Results, initiated by the President's
Management Agenda, is an integrated effort across many fronts. It
centers on:
■ Mission Clarity, Measurable Goals, and an Integrated Performance
Strategy;
■ Linkage of Goals to Budget Formulation & Financial Management;
■ Facilities and Asset Management;
■ Information Technology and E-Government; and
■ Efficiency through Management Improvements and Competitive
Sourcing Reviews.
National Fire Plan Performance Update
As the fourth year of the National Fire Plan implementation comes to a
close, success was once again realized in all key areas. The
National Fire Plan Performance Update describes how, under the
President's Healthy Forests Initiative and the Healthy Forests
Restoration Act, the Departments of Agriculture and Interior are
making progress to reduce the risks of catastrophic wildland fire.
Reorganization of PMB
The Department
reorganized its Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy,
Management and Budget on June 24, 2004. The reorganization helps fully
integrate and align performance and management with human resources

of the Interior for FY2003 The
Focus on Results
Report spotlights accomplishments of the
70,000 employees and 200,000 volunteers of the Department of the
Interior during Fiscal Year 2003. It is a testament to who we are,
what we do, and how we have served the public.
Government Performance and Results Act Strategic Plan
The
Department's FY2003 - FY2008 strategic plan is the linchpin that
integrates DOI management. Finalized in September 2003, the plan
organizes the Department's goals and department-level performance
measures into four mission areas, with bureau inputs, outputs, and
actions linked to these measures. The plan replaces eight distinct
bureau plans with a single, cohesive framework supplemented by
bureau plans that tier from this framework.
Performance and Accountability Report (PAR) The
Performance and Accountability Report summarizes the highlights of
the Department during the fiscal year. It fulfills the requirements
of the Reports Consolidation Act, Chief Financial Officers Act,
Government Performance and Results Act, Federal Managers' Financial
Integrity Act, and Government Management Reform Act. More
importantly, it provides our stakeholders with the ability to assess
our performance relative to our mission and the financial resources

FY 2005 Budget in Brief The FY 2005 Budget in Brief document summarizes and
highlights the programs of the Department of the Interior and its FY
2005 President's budget request. The FY 2005 President's budget
request aligns with the new strategic plan's four strategic mission
components: Resource Protection, Resource Use, Recreation, and
Serving Communities.
Strategic Human Capital Management Plan The
Department’s Strategic Human Capital Management Plan for FY 2003 -
FY 2007 was published in September 2002. The Plan explores the
demographic features of our workforce, its geographic dispersion,
and the wide diversity of skills needed to fulfill our mission. The
Plan also describes four external and internal "drivers" that are
shaping the extent, complexity, and volume of our work.
Strategic Human Capital Plan Implementation and Workforce
Planning Report
In September 2003, the Department published the Strategic
Human Capital Plan Implementation and Workforce Planning Report.
The Report describes progress made to date in implementing the
Strategic Human Capital Plan and provides an overview of the bureau
workforce planning efforts. |
