John Conway
Program Director John B. Conway was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, receiving his B.S. from Loyola of the South and his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. From 1965-1990 he was on the faculty of Indiana University, and then he went to the University of Tennessee to be department head, a position he occupied until the summer of 2003 when he came to DMS as a rotator. His research interests include function theoretic operator theory, the interface of analytic function theory and operator theory, as well as non-commutative approximation theory, which, simplistically put, looks at the closures of various sets of operators on Hilbert space.
