Since 1990 the US standards community annually observes World Standards Day,
so designated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The US
celebration, co-chaired by NIST and ANSI with participation by some 50 trade associations, professional
societies, standards development organizations, corporations, and government agencies, pays tribute to
the value of standardization to the nation’s economy and the consuming public.
The US observance of World Standards Day will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at the U. S.
Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. The event will include a reception, exhibits, dinner, and
presentation of the Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award. The administrating organization for
this year’s event is the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA).
