Dear Colleague:

This letter provides modifications to NSF 01-33, Information Technology
Workforce (ITWF) Program Announcement.  The intention of this Dear Colleague
Letter is to announce an expansion of ITWF's portfolio of research projects.
ITWF will continue to welcome research proposals that address the general
themes in the program announcement, NSF 01-33, and would also like to expand
its portfolio of studies to address labor market factors that may affect the
participation of women and minorities in IT careers.  The program encourages
micro-economic research studies that build on previous research on human
capital investment to address the decisions of certain subpopulations to
invest in IT-related human capital and to pursue careers as professionals in
IT.

A second area of interest to ITWF is the emergence of new forms of education
and skill development of IT workers (colleges of IT, and proprietary
certification programs) and how these affect, positively or negatively, the
preparation for and success of women and underrepresented minorities in IT
careers.  In addition, employment in IT is not strongly linked to possession
of a degree in a traditional computer and information science field, so
employers have turned to applicants from other disciplinary backgrounds to
fill IT jobs.  ITWF invites research proposals addressing issues in these
areas also.

Program Announcement NSF 01-33, as modified and described above, will govern
the requirements and review criteria for proposals submitted to NSF. (See

submission, as noted in NSF 01-33, is 5pm Eastern Standard Time on Monday,
November 4, 2002.
