Oklahoma Severe Weather Awareness Week
March 28-April 3, 2004

Severe Weather Awareness Week Proclaimed for Oklahoma

In Oklahoma, it's not a question of "if" severe storms and tornadoes will strike, it's question of "when."

In an average year, more than 50 tornadoes occur in Oklahoma. Severe thunderstorms frequently bring violent winds and damaging hail to the state, as well, and flooding rains cause problems and create dangerous conditions several times each year.

Are you prepared to handle a tornado or violent thunderstorm? Do you and your family have a plan to stay alive and safe during dangerous Oklahoma storms this spring? Will you know what to do when storms threaten you when you're away from home?

The National Weather Service, in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Civil Emergency Management has proclaimed the week of March 28th through April 3rd as Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Oklahoma. We will use this week to relay life-saving information to help Oklahomans prepare for the upcoming severe weather season.

Public Information Statements will be issued twice daily from each office serving Oklahoma, with a variety of topics on severe weather preparedness and safety.
