Invoices, orders, receipts, reports and correspondence from and about E. Lloyd Howard and Thomas S. Latimer describe activities of Confederate surgeons. Their forms and correspondence include items from Generals Jubal Early, A. P. Hill, Samuel Jones, John Withers, and John Echols; Secretaries of War Judah P. Benjamin, James Seddon and George Randolph and Assistant Secretary Albert T. Bledsoe; Secretary of the Navy Stephen R. Mallory; Surgeon General Samuel Preston Moore; Medical Director of the Army of Northern Virginia Lafayette Guild and surgeons Thomas H. Williams, Hunter McGuire and William H. Geddings. Documentation from and about Edward C. Woodbury and James Lawrence Turner describe activities of Union surgeons. Their forms and correspondence include items from Generals George W. Morell and C. H. Gausche; Surgeon General Joseph K. Barnes and surgeons Wylie H. Forsythe, James P. Prince, L. W. Goldsborough, Charles Tennant and John H. Janeway.
