Research Project: Herbicide Efficacy and Residue Studies in Pacific Northwest Minor Acreage Crops

Location: Vegetable and Forage Crops Production Research

Project Number: 500-7-063-00
Project Type: Appropriated

Start Date: Aug 04, 2000
End Date: Aug 03, 2005

Objective:
Develop chemical control measures for weeds in vegetables, fruits, and speciality crops (so-called minor acreage crops). Determine the response of crops to herbicides. Determine herbicide, fungicide, and insecticide residues in crops to support new pesticide registrations in minor acreage crops.

Approach:
Herbicides, alone or in combination with other herbicides or with cultural and mechanical weed control methods, will be evaluated under field conditions to determine weed control, crop response, and yield and quality of the harvested crop. Plant samples will be collected for analysis for the presence of pesticide residues. Residue studies will be conducted according to Good Lab Practice (GLP) guidelines. The research conducted in this project is part of the national effort of ARS to generate information supporting the registration of minor use pesticides in cooperation with the national IR-4 program. Replaced 0500-00007-046-00D (8/00). FY01 $44,900 Program Increase. FY02 Program Increase, $34,556.
