Objective:
Integrate elements of genetics and pathology research into overall production strategies and cultural management to improve the national sugarbeet genetics pool with a goal of maintaining and enhancing productivity and profitability of production, while reducing resource inputs such as irrigation and energy.

Approach:
Establish a sugarbeet research program in genetics and plant pathology/virology using classical and molecular approaches to improve the national sugarbeet genetics pool, and enhance productivity and profitability of production while reducing resource inputs such and irrigation and energy. FY04 program increase $32,209 (NTL).
