Note: On February 12, 2004, the United States Embassy in Yaounde will include the scanning of visa applicants' index fingers as part of the application process. This process should take only a few seconds, and should not add any time to the process for applicants requiring a visa interview. Fingerprints collected during this process will be linked to other identifying data to ensure that travelers to the United States are properly identified and documented.

Diplomats and other government officials traveling on official business will not be required to appear at the Embassy to participate in the biometric program.

As a result of the requirement to collect biometric data, use of the "drop box" to obtain a nonimmigrant visa will be suspended until further notice.
