The Mid-Continent Ecology Division of EPA’s National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory performs research to protect freshwater ecosystems and wildlife, and to understand the basic processes and mechanisms involved in aquatic toxicity. Our mission is to provide scientific information for use in assessing and forecasting the effects of pollutants and other stressors on our nation’s freshwater resources. The Division consists of six research branches, with five branches located in Duluth, MN and one branch located in Grosse Ile, MI.
