Green power lighting up Moab

11/10 -- At a ceremony on Nov. 6, EPA recognized the Greater Moab Area Community in Utah as the nation’s first Green Power Community. EPA prMatt Clouse, director of EPA's Green Power Partnership with Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison and Castle Valley Mayor Bruce Keeleresented the mayors of Castle Valley and the City of Moab with a street sign highlighting the milestone. The Cities of Moab, Castle Valley, Park Creek Ranch, and Spanish Valley are the first communities to meet and exceed the EPA Green Power Partnership’s benchmark for green power usage with voluntary purchases. With four percent of the Moab area's electricity offset by wind power, EPA estimates an environmental benefit equivalent to avoiding the generation of four million pounds of carbon dioxide.
