The Region 8 Air and Radiation Program's goal is to protect human health and help keep the air clean across the Rocky Mountains and High Plains. We do this through the implementation and oversight of the Clean Air Act in six states and with 27 tribes.

Because there are many different sources of air pollution, everything from cars and trucks, construction equipment to power plants and refineries and manufacturing plants, the specific programs we use to manage these sources can vary greatly. These programs help us achieve clean air through a host of permitting activities and by supporting State and Tribe monitoring programs. They also allow us to work with our Enforcement group to ensure that sources of pollution are complying with the Clean Air Act. Our goal includes making sure that the air in our cities and towns stays clean and our parks, wilderness areas and tribal lands are free of pollution and from haze that can obscure views.

The Plain English Guide to the Clean Air Act describes the EPA, state, and tribal partnerships and roles, while specific Region 8 roles are highlighted by section under oversight and direct implementation.
