Correction of Information on a Revalidated Visa

Discontinuation of Domestic Visa Revalidation Service

The Revalidation Division has discontinued its domestic visa revalidation (or reissuance) service. Notification of the discontinuation of domestic visa revalidation services was published in the Federal Register on June 23, 2004.

If your E, H, I, L, O, or P visa was revalidated/renewed in the Visa Office in Washington but contains incorrect information, you may return it to us for correction. It must be received in the Visa Office no later than October 26, 2004, following the required guidelines explained below.

The Visa Office does not correct visas issued at U.S. embassies or consulates abroad.

What do I need to request a correction?

  • The passport with the revalidated visa, AND
  • a letter explaining what needs to be corrected, AND
  • documents substantiating the correct information, AND
  • see photograph requirements.

What is the fee for a correction?
There is NO fee for a correction.

Washington, DC 20522-0106

How should I send the request?
You may send your documents through the U.S. Postal Service or a commercial courier service.

Yes. In either case, you must enclose a pre-paid courier airbill and envelope or a self addressed stamped envelope for the return of your passport. The U.S. Postal Service recommends a padded envelope for passport safety. The Visa Office does not endorse the use of any particular commercial courier service.

Corrections receive priority service. You may expect a turnaround of approximately five working days. The Visa Office does not track outgoing envelopes or packages. You should keep a record of your airbill or other package tracking number.
