Resubmitting Revalidation Applications
with Additional Documentation

Discontinuation of Domestic Visa Revalidation Services

The Revalidation Division has discontinued its domestic visa revalidation (or reissuance) service. Notification of the discontinuation of domestic visa revalidation services was published in the Federal Register on June 23, 2004.

All applications for revalidation following a 221(g) refusal must be received in the processing center in St. Louis (applications involving payment of a visa issuance reciprocity fee) or the revalidation division in Washington, DC (applications involving additional documentation only) no later than September 30, 2004.

Required Documentation Following a Visa Refusal

If the Visa Office informed you that you may resubmit your visa revalidation application with additional or missing documentation, you may submit the documentation noted on the Visa Office’s refusal letter NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 30, 2004.  You must include:

  • Visa refusal letter from the Visa Office, AND
  • Evidence of fee payment (photocopy of bank draft, corporate check, or money order), AND
  • A new completed and signed Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-156. with photo that meets our standards, as shown in nonimmigrant photograph requirements, AND
  • A new completed Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form DS-157 for male applicants aged 16 to 45, regardless of nationality, AND
  • All required supporting documents (including previously missing items), AND
  • Pre-paid courier airbill and envelope or self-addressed stamped envelope.
  • Do not enclose your resubmission in an inner envelope within your outer mailing envelope.
  • Do not enclose your resubmission in an inner envelope within your outer mailing envelope.
  • Resubmission must be received in the St. Louis processing center (applications involving payment of the reciprocal visa issuance fee) or the Visa Office in Washington, DC (applications involving documentary requirements only) no later than September 30, 2004.

If you do not have time to resubmit a visa revalidation application to the Visa Office, or you are unable to resubmit a visa revalidation application before September 30, 2004, you may make a new visa application at a U.S. consulate or embassy abroad.
If you apply for a new visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, you must pay a new nonimmigrant visa application processing fee.

Unless the Visa Office stated in your visa refusal letter that you owe additional fees, there are no additional fees to resubmit a revalidation application with additional documentation. Therefore, do not pay a new nonimmigrant visa application processing fee with your resubmission.
