Abstract: RETC uses theoretical methods to predict the soil water retention curve and the hydraulic conductivity curve from measured soil water retention data. It uses several analytical models to estimate water retention, unsaturated hydraulic conductivity or soil water diffusivity for a given soil. It includes the parametric equations of Brooks-Corey and van Genuchten, which are used in conjunction with the theoretical pore-size distribution models of Mualem and Burdine to predict unsaturated hydraulic conductivity from observed soil water retention data. RETC can be used in a forward mode and in a parameter fitting mode. In the forward mode it estimates the soil-water retention curve and hydraulic conductivity; in the parameter fitting mode it determines the analytical model parameters.
