Research Project: Development of Area Wide Strategic Armyworm Control Using Spodoptera Exempta Nucleopolyhedrouvirus (Spemnpv)

Location:

Project Number: 210-22310-002-42
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Jan 01, 2003
End Date: Jun 30, 2005

Objective:
To develop and validate methods for the large scale/low cost production and application of an environmentally friendly biological control agent (SpemNPV) for the strategic control of armyworm in Tanzania and other outbreak countries in East Africa.

Approach:
Laboratory raised Tanzanian SpemNPV from NRI-UK will sprayed on early outbreak armyworm, which will then be collected to scale-up Spem NPV production. American, Brazilian and indigenous Tanzanian methods will be utilized for large scale spraying application and efficacy trials.
