Tribal Program Strategy and Work Plan

The Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Tribal Program supports EPA's broader mission of protecting human health and the environment on tribal lands. The program's overall aim, consistent with the Agency's Tribal Policies and Initiatives, (which has the lead for all EPA Indian activities) is to improve compliance in Indian Country in a manner that recognizes the sovereignty of Tribal governments.

The Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Tribal Program and the EPA Regional Offices work with Indian Tribes on a government-to-government basis to identify compliance assistance, monitoring, enforcement and capacity-building issues affecting Indian communities. Strategies are developed to address these issues, including the development of compliance monitoring programs in Indian Country.

Within the Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Tribal Program , the Office of Planning, Policy Analysis and Communications represents The Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Tribal Program on cross-cutting enforcement and compliance aspects of the Agency's tribal program, including serving as the first point of contact for tribal enforcement and compliance issues and serving as The Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Tribal Program 's Senior Indian Program Manager. It also acts as liaison to EPA's American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO), other federal agencies, and the EPA Tribal Caucus as well as representing The Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Tribal Program in intra- and inter-Agency Tribal program activities.
