Trimming the Tree

From hanging the lights to lighting the President's portrait, staff and volunteers transform the stately Blue Room into a place glistening with holiday cheer. Each year the chandelier in the Blue Room is removed to make way for the White House Christmas tree. This year's tree is an 18-foot Noble Fir from the Hedlund Christmas Farm in Elma, Washington. The work begins by hanging lights on the White House Christmas tree.
Volunteers carefully place red and gold balls and hundreds of hand-crafted bird ornaments on the White House Christmas tree. From turkeys to cardinals, artisans from across the country chose birds native to their state to create a White House ornament. After the completion of the White House tree, volunteers celebrate with hugs and cheers. The President and Mrs. Bush greet their guests before posing for a picture in front of the White House Christmas tree.
