Forging strong partnerships is an important aspect of EPA's enforcement and compliance assurance program. States play a crucial role in the implementation of our nation's environmental laws and regulations. Strengthening these relationships through improved coordination, joint work planning and specialized assistance will promote greater compliance. One key partnership with states involves work planning and support through grant agreements (referred to as State and Tribal Assistance Grants or STAG). The enforcement and compliance assurance program manages several grant programs that directly aid and assist states in implementing their compliance programs.

Federal Register Notice Announcing the availability of funds for multimedia assistance agreements with states and tribes highlights the eligibility criteria, describes the funding areas, and explains the process of applying for funds. It is anticipated that all funding decisions will be made by early Summer, 2003. The Notice closes on May 5, 2003.
