bulletAmerican Statistical Association (ASA)

The National Science Foundation partners with the American Statistical Association and other federal agencies to support a number of research programs in the social, economic, and statistical sciences, one of which involves the Division of Science Resources Statistics (SRS).

ASA/NSF-SRS Fellowship Research Program The American Statistical Association and the National Science Foundation's Division of Science Resources Statistics proudly announce the 2005 ASA/SRS-NSF Research Fellowship Program. The Research Program is seeking highly qualified, motivated, creative individuals to conduct interdisciplinary research using SRS data on-site at the National Science Foundation, in Arlington, Virginia. The fellowship provides full-time support for up to 3 months and support for 10% of the Fellow's time for up to 9 additional months. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications for the 2005 ASA/NSF-SRS Research Fellowship Program must be received by March 4, 2005. bulletAmerican Educational Research Association (AERA)

The National Science Foundation, in cooperation with the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and its Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), jointly fund a research and training program administered by the American Educational Research Association. This multi-faceted program is intended to enhance the capability of the U.S. research community to use large-scale, nationally-representative data sets, specifically those of the NSF and NCES, to conduct studies that are relevant to educational policy and practice, and to strengthen communications between the educational research community and government staff. The AERA Grants Program has five major components: a research grants program, a dissertation grants program, a research fellows program, the AERA Fellows program, and a training institute. The range of programs available under the AERA Grants Program provide opportunities for beginning and senior researchers, including advanced graduate students. Minority researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

bulletAssociation for Institutional Research (AIR)

The NSF, in conjunction with the NCES, supports AIR's Improving Institutional Research in Postsecondary Educational Institutions program. The goals of the program are to provide opportunities to institutional research professionals for professional development, to foster the use of federal data bases by institutional researchers (including the national sample surveys) in postsecondary education decision-making, and to foster the use of the federal data bases to inform research on institutional research in postsecondary education. The program has two major components: annual summer Institutes to study the national data bases, and research grants. Dissemination is an integral part of the AIR Grant Program. NCES and NSF have agreed to provide access to needed data through the National Data Resource Center or a similar mechanism. NSF Data Base Institute proposals are solicited from the staff, faculty and doctoral students of postsecondary education institutions.

bulletGrants for the Analysis of Science and Technology (S&T) Resources: S&T Workforce, Funding, Impacts, Outputs, and International Studies (NSF 02-165)
Please note: The Division of Science Resources Statistics will not be accepting proposals in September 2004. Instead, the next proposal deadline is anticipated to be January 17, 2005. In addition, the program announcement will be substantially revised. Questions regarding these changes should be directed to Melissa Pollak, the program officer, at 703-292-7808 or mpollak@nsf.gov.

SRS welcomes proposals for research, workshops and studies leading to improved approaches to indicator development and presentation, new Science and Technology (S&T) indicator development, strengthening of methodologies to improve the surveys of S&T data, and better understanding of the S&T enterprise in the United States and globally under its Grants for the Analysis of Science and Technology Resources. SRS is keenly interested in the development of new approaches to the analysis and presentation of data as indicators, with a particular focus on effective methods of presenting complex information as indicators.
