$30 Million Available for Public Health Research
Almost $30 million has been committed by CDC to
support innovative public health research aimed at promoting and
protecting the health of Americans—focusing on producing evidence that will help employers make better choices in wellness
programs. This effort is part of an ongoing focus at CDC on increasing
investigator-initiated research. The awards are available through four
mechanisms:
- $14 million in 20 to 40 RO1 grants that give priority to projects identifying innovative cost-effective health promotion policies, programs, and
activities in the workplace or affecting the workplace
- Up to $10 million in K01 awards to support the development of a
qualified and experienced public health researchers to address
priority health protection issues.
- $1 million to provide core support for the establishing a Center of
Excellence in Health Promotion Economics.
- $4 million for institutional training grants to eligible
institutions to develop or enhance training programs in health
protection research.
Research proposals for the workplace and individual training components
are due June 21, 2004, while applications for the institutional training and
health economics components are due June 22, 2004. Awards will be announced
in September 2004.
