Green power lighting up Moab
11/10 -- At a ceremony on Nov. 6, EPA recognized the Greater Moab Area Community
in Utah as the nations first Green Power Community. EPA presented
the mayors of Castle Valley and the City of Moab with a street sign highlighting
the milestone. The Cities of Moab, Castle Valley, Park Creek Ranch, and Spanish
Valley are the first communities to meet and exceed the EPA Green Power Partnerships
benchmark for green power usage with voluntary purchases. With four percent of
the Moab area's electricity offset by wind power, EPA estimates an environmental
benefit equivalent to avoiding the generation of four million pounds of carbon
dioxide. Press

its fleet of cars. The vehicle is the first of many hybrid cars EPA's Denver office
will be purchasing to complement its existing fleet of standard and alternative
fueled vehicles. The electric/gas powered Civic will get nearly 50 mpg in both
city and highway driving conditions. It will emit 22 percent less smog forming
pollutants and 50 percent less greenhouse gases than the vehicle it replaces.
