Strategic Initiatives

The Strategic Initiatives Team manages the development of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Strategic Plan and FHWA's contributions to the development of the U.S. Department of Transportation Strategic Plan. The strategic planning process provides the vehicle for establishing the agency's initial priorities and direction. With a growing appreciation for the importance of strategic planning, the Strategic Initiatives Team works with units through the Federal Highway Administration to identify priorities, determine direction, identify key objectives, and identify resource requirements on an agency-wide basis. The team's unique contribution is to integrate external emerging issues and long-run trends, changes in direction from top Administration officials. and a crosscutting policy context that does not arise with individual business areas into the overall FHWA strategic planning process.
