OPM Chief Actuary Named President of Middle Atlantic Actuarial Club

Club Charged With Bringing About Change Through Effective Labor-Management Partnerships

Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Kay Coles James has announced that Nancy Kichak, OPM's Deputy Associate Director for Workforce Planning and Policy Analysis and Chief Actuary has been elected President of the Middle Atlantic Actuarial Club (MAAC). The Club, founded over 65 years ago with current membership from Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, and North Carolina, was created to bring about change in the federal government through labor-management partnerships.

"I am honored to have members on the OPM team who also serve as leaders in their respective disciplines outside the Federal Government. Nancy brings a wealth of expertise and experience to her position as Chief Actuary at OPM, and her added responsibility as President of the MAAC further reinforces her track record of providing effective leadership." James said.

Kichak has directed OPM's actuaries since 1987. Her work has included the negotiation of premiums in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and the implementation of long term care insurance for the Federal employees, annuitants, and members of the Uniformed Services.

In 2003, her role was expanded to include the management of workforce information. This past year Ms. Kichak was awarded the rank of Distinguished Executive by President George Bush for her service to the Federal government.

In her position as President of the MAAC, Kichak will ensure that actuaries in the Middle Atlantic region will have the opportunity to convene to learn of current issues facing the actuarial profession. Former Presidents of the Middle Atlantic Actuarial Club have included chief actuaries of Federal departments and agencies.
