Policy Advisor

The Board is charged with serving as adviser to the President and Congress on policy matters related to science and engineering research and education, both in response to their requests and on the Board's own initiative.

In its role as policy adviser to the President and Congress, the Board initiates and conducts studies on a broad range of policy topics related to science and engineering research and education, presents the results and Board recommendations in reports and policy statements to the President and the Congress, and makes these documents available to the research and educational communities and the general public. On a biennial basis, the Board publishes Science and Engineering Indicators, a detailed examination of major trends in science and engineering. Other policy advice from the Board takes the form of Congressional testimony, personal visits, editorials, and letters.
