Laura Bush Presents "Preserve America History Teacher of the Year" Award to Wisconsin Teacher

Oct. 19, 2004—Mrs. Laura Bush today presented Kathleen Cochrane Kean of Glendale, Wisconsin, the first national "Preserve America History Teacher of the Year" Award during a ceremony held at the New-York Historical Society in New York City.

Kean was recognized for her creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication to teaching children history. ACHP Chairman John L. Nau and Vice Chairman Bernadette Castro’s participated in the ceremony. Read more at PreserveAmerica.gov

Nov. 1 Deadline Approaches to Submit
2005 Preserve America Presidential Award Nominations

The deadline to nominate your historic preservation project for the 2005 Preserve America Presidential Award is rapidly approaching.

Nomination forms and accompanying materials must be postmarked by November 1, 2004.

Two awardees will be selected in each
of two categories:

  • Heritage Tourism, for projects that exemplify efforts that demonstrate commitment to the protection and interpretation of America's cultural or natural heritage assets; and
  • Private Preservation, for outstanding historic preservation projects that are funded priviately or through public-private partnerships and that support the Administration's Preserve America initiative objectives.
