"Volunteers
Inspire by Example" is the theme of the 31st annual National Volunteer Week -
showcasing the power volunteers have to inspire not only other people to
volunteer but also the people they serve. National Volunteer Week is an
opportunity to recognize the efforts of volunteers across the country and to
provide opportunities for all Americans to participate in volunteer service.
During National Volunteer Week many organizations across the country
recognize millions of our nation's volunteers for their outstanding
contributions to their communities over the past year. This year, many
volunteers will be receiving the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
Created by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation at the
direction of President George W. Bush, the President's Volunteer Service Award
honors Americans who have made a sustained commitment to volunteer service.

The Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network have
developed an online toolkit to help those interested in organizing
service projects during National Volunteer Week. The toolkit will help
organizers to recruit volunteers for service projects and promote the
volunteer activities more broadly.
