The Freedom of Information Act established a presumption that records in the possession of federal agencies are accessible to the people. It gives you the right to access any of the Office of Surface Mining's records unless they are protected by exemption. Many documents are available to the public for inspection, copying, or via Internet. Chances are, the documents you're looking for will be available at the Administration Record, libraries, electronic reading room, or other pages at this web site. If you cannot find it through these sources, send us a written FOIA request. If you have questions on what information is publicly available (i.e. without an FOIA request) or where it may be located, send an E-mail request to getinfo@osmre.gov or contact one of the FOIA Contacts. Our responsibility is to provide you with copies of records you are entitled to receive under the law. We want to work with you to achieve that goal.

For answers to specific questions about the Freedom of Information Act E-Mail Miriam Lam, Bureau FOIA Officer, at mlam@osmre.gov or Joyce Taitt, FOIA Coordinator, at jtaitt@osmre.gov.
