Over the years the Office of Surface Mining has accumulated a small collection of photographs showing coal mining activities, reclaimed surface coal mines, environmental protection practices (e.g., sedimentation ponds, rock drains, and water monitoring devices), and abandoned mine land reclamation. Most of the photographs are 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" color transparencies.

Because of the demand for copies of these photographs, the Office of Communications is developing an on-line photo library. Each photo is provided in two sizes, "thumb-nail and larger. The larger photos are in .jpg format and have an accompaning caption describing the photo. These photographs may be downloaded, used, and reproduced at no cost. When used, credit: Chuck Meyers, Office of Surface Mining, unless otherwise noted. We request that you notify the Office of Communications by E-Mail at getinfo@osmre.gov and identify which photographs are used, including a complete citation where they are published.

Photographs will be continually added to this library; however, if you have specific requirements, let us know by E-Mail at cmeyers@osmre.gov and we will either provide photos at the pick-up window or let you know other sources where your needs can be met.Tree graphic
