Nationally Reportable Infectious Diseases

In the United States, requirements for reporting diseases are mandated by state laws or regulations, and the list of reportable diseases in each state differs. In 1997, CDC, in collaboration with The Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), updated the case definitions of nationally reportable infectious diseases for use by state health departments. These updated definitions were published in Case Definitions for Infectious Conditions Under Public Health Surveillance, MMWR 1997 This is a PDF file - Click for Instructions.
The document also includes criteria for some infectious diseases not designated as nationally reportable.

NOTE: MOST ANTIMICROBIAL-RESISTANT MICROORGANISMS ARE NOT REPORTABLE AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL.
