Office of Pesticide Programs Contacts (Headquarters)The Office of Pesticide Programs is managed by an Office Director and includes nine divisions. The following is a listing of the senior managers and other key personnel within OPP's divisions: OPP's parent office, the Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances (OPPTS), is headed by an Assistant Administrator.
Responsible for overall management of OPP:
Antimicrobials Division AD is responsible for all regulatory activities associated with antimicrobial pesticides, including product registrations, amendments, and reregistrations.
Biological and Economic Analysis Division BEAD is responsible for assessment of pesticide use and benefits; and operating analytical chemistry and antimicrobial testing laboratories.
Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention
Division For much of its history, the primary function of the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) has been to register and regulate pesticides, particularly chemical pesticides. In recent years, however, OPP has begun to shift from simply regulating pesticides to promoting systems of pest management that better protect health and the environment, and enhance the quality of our lives. This approach recognizes that pesticides are only one element in controlling pests and that, in some cases, non-chemical alternatives can be as effective as chemical pesticides with fewer health or environmental risks. Related to this shift in approach have been efforts to "reinvent" OPP's ways of conducting its work. An important initiative in this area was the creation of a new division,
the Biopesticides and Pollution Prevention Division, that is devoted to
biologically-based pesticides and to measures that reduce pesticide risks.
A major effort being spearheaded by this division is the Pesticide Environmental
Stewardship Program (PESP), a broad effort by EPA, USDA, and FDA to work
with pesticide users and others to reduce pesticide risk and use in both
agricultural and non-agricultural settings.
Environmental Fate and Effects Division EFED is responsible for evaluating and validating environmental data submitted on pesticide properties and effects.
Field and External Affairs Division FEAD is responsible for program policies and regulations; legislation and Congressional interaction; regional, State, and tribal coordination and assistance; international and field programs; and communication and outreach activities.
Health Effects Division HED is responsible for reviewing and validating data on properties and effects of pesticides, as well as, characterizing and assessing exposure and risks to humans and domestic animals.
Information Resources & Services
Division IRSD is responsible for information support; Public Docket; records computer support; FIFRA section 6(a)(2) issues; pesticide incident monitoring; this Web site; and the National Pesticide Information Center.
Registration Division RD is responsible product registrations, amendments, registrations, tolerances, experimental use permits, and emergency exemptions for all pesticides not assigned to BPPD or AD.
Special Review and Reregistration Division SRRD is responsible Reregistration Eligibility Decisions (REDs), product reregistration; tolerance reassessment; and Special Reviews.
