Pending Redesignation Status by Pollutant The area status reports include the following information: NAAQS Pollutant The name of the specific pollutant for which the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) was not attained in the specified area. State, Area name The state abbreviation and "Part 81" area name, based on the tables in 40 CFR 81.301 - 81.356 listing the nonattainment areas in each state. Classification The degree to which air quality in the specified area fails to meet the NAAQS. The classification levels are not applicable to every pollutant, and are different for each pollutant. Date Request Submitted The date when the state submitted their request that the EPA redesignate the area to "attainment" status. The request must be supported by monitored improvements in air quality, and by an enforceable plan to maintain the NAAQS in the specified area. Redesignation Effective Date The date that the EPA's redesignation of an area was, or will be, effective. The effective date is typically 30 or 60 days after the final rule is published in the Federal Register.
