Abstract:
On July 23, 1999, EPA finalized a rule revising its Air Quality Index (AQI) to enhance the public's understanding of air pollution across the nation. Previously known as the Pollutant Standards Index, this uniform air quality index is used by state and local agencies for reporting on daily air quality to the public. The Index provides general information to the public about air quality and associated health effects.

This file provides supplemental guidance to to the AQI rule help air quality agencies develop, operate and evaulate ozone forecasting programs. The intended audience is project managers meteorologists, air quality analysts and data analysts.
