MISSOURI SITE ADDED TO NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST

FOR RELEASE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1999

MISSOURI SITE ADDED TO NATIONAL PRIORITIES LIST

EPA is adding one site, the Pools Prairie site in Neosho, Mo., to the final National Priorities List (NPL). EPA and the state conducted several investigations on site to collect ground water and soil samples and to identify potential sources of the contaminants detected in 36 residential drinking water wells. Five source areas have been identified at the Pools Prairie site for which adequate documentation exists to attribute the volatile organic compounds found in ground water to the site. A soil removal and ground water containment is planned. The primary purpose of the NPL is to guide EPA in determining which sites warrant further investigation. Currently there are a total of 1,225 final site and 58 proposed sites. Further information about this site and others sites visit the Superfund web page: http://www.epa.gov/superfund/sites/index.htm#desnqry.
