COMMENTS SOUGHT FOR REDUCING RCRA REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

FOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 1999

COMMENTS SOUGHT FOR REDUCING
RCRA REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

EPA is seeking comment on ideas to streamline record keeping and reporting requirements for hazardous waste facilities under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). These ideas are outlined in a Notice of Data Availability that is expected to be published soon in the Federal Register. EPA developed the following burden reduction ideas: allowing electronic reporting and record keeping for all information that is kept by facilities and sent to EPA; reducing reporting requirements for generators and treatment, storage and disposal facilities; lengthening the periods between facility self-inspections; streamlining personnel training in hazardous waste requirements; streamlining the land disposal restrictions notification, determination and certification requirements; and reducing the amount of information in the Agency’s National Biennial RCRA hazardous Waste Report. Comments may be submitted electronically to rcra-docket@epamail.epa.gov or by post mail to: RCRA Information Center, EPA, Mail Code 5305G, Washington, D.C. 20460. For additional information call the RCRA Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or 703-412-9810.
